What are the dates for Safety Town and where will Safety Town be held?
The dates for the 2021 Safety Town camp sessions are: June 14th - 24th. The AM Session will be 8:30-11:30 and the PM Session will be 12:30-3:30. There is another AM Session July 6th-15th (Tuesday-Friday 1st week and Monday-Thursday 2nd week). Camp is held at the New Albany-Plain Local School Early Learning Center at 5101 Swickard Woods Boulevard New Albany OH 43054.
What are the age and grade requirements to attend Safety Town?
Children must be 5 years of age on or before August 1st and entering kindergarten or first grade in the Fall of the year attending camp. This two week camp is for children who are attending a safety town camp for the first time. If your child has already completed New Albany Safety Town, please register your child for the New Albany Safety Town Graduate Camp. In addition, children should be able to sit still and quietly for up to 20 minutes while the teachers provide instruction in a classroom and while community partners do their presentations. Children should also be able to pedal a small four-wheel bike. Children not able to do both should not attend this year.
How do I register my child and how much will it cost to participate?
Once registration opens you can visit our website at www.newalbanysafetytown.org and click on Register Now in the top right of the site navigation bar. You will be asked to create an account and create a profile for each of your children before you select the camp session or, you can login if you already have an account and either select the child you want to register for camp or add another child who is new to camp.
Cost of the camp is $95 and includes all instruction, most class room materials, camp shirt, bike helmet, filed trips and other camp items such as bike light and water bottles.
Who is eligible to attend Safety Town camp this year?
In order to remain committed to the health and safety of the campers and our staff we will have limited space this year and camp will only be offered to those families living in The New Albany Plain Local School (NAPLS) District. If camp does not fill up we will extend offerings once again to our neighboring communities. In addition, the campers who were registered last year will be eligible to attend either Safety Town or Graduate Camp provided they reside in the NAPLS district.
Do I need to live in New Albany to attend?
While we have enjoyed being able to offer camp to all families in a wide range of local communities, because of our limited space we will only be welcoming campers who reside in the New Albany Plain Local School District. We know this will be very disappointing to many families, and if camp does not fill up with families in our community, we will open registration to our neighboring communities at that time.
Do I drop off my child or do I need to stay for the duration of camp?
We ask that all campers be escorted into the Early Learning Center. You will enter the building from the side parking lot entrance and walk your child to the gymnasium where you will meet your child's teacher and sign in. You will then leave and return to pick up your child from the gymnasium and sign him/her out for the day. You will have the opportunity to designate who is authorized to pick up your child during the registration process.
Are there make-up classes?
Unfortunately, there are no make-up classes. If there are handouts from a missed class, your child will be given them on the day he/she returns.
What if I want to register my child for a session and do not see it online?
Once sessions are full, they will not be visible as a choice when registering. Camp fills up very fast and we encourage you to plan ahead and register as soon as possible. Our most popular sessions are in June and especially the am session! We encourage you not to wait if that is the session you want. In fact, the June AM session has typically filled up the first or second day registration is open!
Another reason you might not see any available camps is if you are attempting to register and do not live in the New Albany Plain Local School District or if you did not accept all of the camp consent forms.
May my child attend more than one session in the same year?
No. Your child may attend only 1 two-week session per Summer. Safety Town is an extremely popular program and each year all sessions fill to capacity. Moreover, we think that re- enforcement of the safety lessons taught during camp are best done the following year in Graduate Camp rather than in consecutive sessions the same year.
